Glad they didn't sing about the Hamptons

So, I went to Montauk with Kasey, cause everyone was doing something for Spring Break, so why not? I'm not a big traveling person but it's not really that far away. We mainly chose Montauk because we both like Bayside and they have a song called, you guessed it, Montauk. The drive there was super easy because it's mainly one long road. On the way there we passed by the Hamptons. Ugh, what a pretentious place. Tans, blond hair, expensive shops...bleh. I was glad to see that Montauk is actually a very nice town, if a little empty. But, in all fariness it is their off season.

Much to our surprise, everything closes at around 6:00 p.m. Whether due to it being the off season, or just the price of living in a small town I don't know. We ended up eating at a small fish restaurant. I ordered something which ended up tasting terrible to me. Thank goodness there was a chicken place open late. I just grabbed myself a burger and called it a night.

The beach out there is awesome. The hotel was literally about 2 minutes from the water. There is something about the smell of salt water that is soothing. There's a freshness to it that is missing in the city. There was no chance of going in that water because two seconds after dipping my hand into the surf, it turned into a block of ice. So we just wrote out things in the sand. (Even though some of us wrote incorrect lyrics in the sand. I won't say who *cough* Kasey * cough) After that we went to the Montauk lighthouse. There is not much to learn there but the scenery was beautiful. And if you're brave enough to travail the 137 steps leadign to the top of the lighthouse, you are rewarded with a view, that is honestly beyond words.

All in all it was a very nice place. Quaint, almost out of those weird all movies. I hope to return in the summer when the weather is nicer.

For those who want to know what Bayside said, or for those who want to check their lyrics (*cough* Kasey *cough*)here is Montauk:

It's getting cold
Thought it was too soon to tell but it was terribly old
and now the heartbeat slows
to a heartless crawl

The lights went out
The lights went out
and darkness filled the house
on a tiring night under a Long Island sky

Chorus:
I thought I'd known the consequence,
sweetness,can you believe this?
mess we've made of it
this mess we've made of it
In years to come it might make sense
sweetness can you believe this
Just what's become of it
What's become of it

But If you hear this and you think you're ready,
meet me in Montauk where we'll write out in the sand
Here lies the destiny of two hurt souls afraid to be
cured again. That could be our epitaph

Chorus (3X)

Once in a lifetime

I went to see Uncreation on Saturday, which was an awesome experience because they seriously rocked Amityville. They were even better than the last time I saw them and I really like their new material. Which is a big thing because I'm not even a metal fan. Chris' solos are insane.

While hanging out after the show I found out that a friend of mine had extra tickets to the St. John's vs. Georgetown game, which would be the first game ever played at the new Citifield. Though it was rainy and cold Sunday afternoon, I headed over because I am a huge Mets fan. It was well worth it. There are few words to describe the stadium. It is gorgeous. The Jackie Robinson rotunda nearly brought tears to my eyes. I was glad to see that the crickety old Home Run Apple we all loved, made it's way to the new stadium in one piece. While it was incredibly sad to see the pile of rubble where Shea Stadium once stood, seeing that beautiful piece of architecture in it's place makes the sadness dissipate just a tad. I'll always have the memories of the incredible highs and heart-breaking lows that I experienced in Shea Stadium and can only hope for many more to come at Citi Field.

Peek at my Life

I've been stressed out a bit lately because I've realized that the money I am currently making hardly covers my expenses. I have a trip coming up in May and I need clothes, my plane tix, spending money...lions, and tigers, and bears oh my! I've been trying to get a raise for some time now. We are allowed to ask for one every year. How long have I been waiting? I should be putting in for this year's raise now. I actually contemplated leaving my job. But I'm lazy and it's comfortable. Then again, I work with an inept, sneaky bitch...who probably makes more than me and does...hmmm...what does she do?

I got good news today though. My side job...a well that was drying up as of late...has picked up once again. It may not be much but that extra income is really going to help me out in the long run. And it's something that I find interesting. Plus there is a chance that I may see my name on an article in an accredited journal some time in the near future, which is something that I'm looking forward to.

I recently started actually using the treadmill we have in the house. It's helped me calm down a bit because I can walk off a lot of the anger I'm so quick to harbor. Which translates to me not being such a bitch to the students that walk into our offices and not letting things get to me so much. I'm sure the people in my life can appreciate that one.

A picture's worth a thousand words

Someone at work told me that Obama should be president just for the pictures. The man is highly photogenic. I ran across this photo of Michelle and Barack in between parties during Inauguration Day. I thought it was the sweetest thing I've seen in a while--His jacket over her shoulders, his forehead touching hers and the blissful smile on his face. I was speaking to Al about and the photo and stated that Obama is the most affectionate president I've ever seen (toward his wife, of course. I mean Clinton was affectionate, but let's not go there). He remarked it was their age. He is one of the youngest presidents we've had in a while. However, Kennedy was young and he was a horndog.

People love Obama, and why not? There are a plethora of reasons why the nation chose him to be the leader of the free world. As trivial as it may be the main reason why he inspires me is simply this---the man genuinely loves his wife. He hugs her. He kisses her. They share whispered secrets while they dance. Where the nation saw a simple fist bump, they saw a thousand unspoken words shared between two people who truly understand each other. There is no pretentiousness with him. He is not going to change who he is simply because he now holds a higher title than he previously did. He is a husband and father first and the President second. There is not doubt in my mind that if at any point his wife or his children would have asked him not to run, he'd have done it without a second thought. Because when he tells his family he loves them, for once it's not simply an utterance of words..it is the truth.

It's time that our country was run the way it was intended to be run. With compassion and fairness. With an open mind and more importantly an open heart; not with one hand on the bible and the other on the red button. We needed a change and change has finally come.

I love the internet

For a while now, I've wanted to get myself a digital camera. I'm not used to get much for myself (mainly for monetary reasons). However, I am going to DR to see my parents in May and I would love to actually have pics of my trip. I got some gift cards for Christmas, so I decided to put it toward my camera. I went to Circuit City in the hopes that they would be having awesome sales because they're going out of business. That didn't happen. The sales were barely that. 10% off, a liquidation sale does not make. And on top of that, the selection was weak. I tried my hand at Target, mainly because it was next door. I saw a camera I totally fell in love with. Well, as much as one can fall for an inanimate object. It was pretty, sleek, plumy (in color, not that it has plumage)...and the best part it was on SALE!!! Yeah, too bad they were out of stock and Target apparently does not care about making a sale, because they wouldn't let me buy the display model. Needless to say I left very unsatisfied.

Upon getting home I turn to the interwebs and what should I stumble upon but my camera on Amazon for the same price I saw it in Target...no, actually it's cheaper. I am hopefully going to buy it tomorrow (crossing fingers) Yay, internet!

Why Grissom, why?

So as I stated earlier I'm a big CSI fan. I'm not one of those people who follows each and every spin off. As such I don't like Miami or NY. I like the original Vegas one. And the reason is simple--Grissom. Okay, so I have a crush on a fictional elderly man--sue me. There is something sexy about a big brain, and sarcasm. Hence, my affinity for the character. Much to my disappointment, William Petersen decided to leave the show. I can understand getting tired of playing the same part for years on end. I can see how that can become repetitive and boring. But it just makes me sad that I'll probably have to quit watching the show now. The story lines are not all that original. A show either stands on good writing or good characters. It's one of the main reasons SNL sucks after Tina Fey left. It's the same reason why 30 Rock cleans up at awards show. CSI is no 30 Rock. They had Grissom, now they don't. And to me, that just sucks. (And also because he leaves due to Sara's character whom I hated from the beginning and kind of wished she would have died last season). Anyway, I leave you with some words from the infamous Gil Grissom:

Bobby Dawson: Hodges will have to verify this, but I believe that is Cream of Wheat.
Gil Grissom: So he's a cereal killer?

Brass: Hey, look what I found: a knife with blood on it.
Grissom:
Hey, look what I found: a dead guy.

Grissom: [Picking up bugs] John...Paul...George...and Ringo.
Sara: Beetles.

Grissom: [To a murderer who killed a boy with Down Syndrome] By the way, the definition of "retard" is to hinder or to hold someone back. I think your life is about to become retarded.

Grissom: Did you hear the one about the cop and the monkey who go into a bar?
Catherine: I'm not in the mood.
Grissom: Neither was the monkey.

[upon discovering massive amounts of weapons present at a hockey game]
Gil Grissom: It looks like these guys went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.

[ to Dr. Robbins, who's holding a severed head]
Grissom: I'd heard you'd got some head.

Gil Grissom: [to a waiter] Excuse me, do you recognize this ear?

Ananda: The past is in the past.
Gil Grissom: True, but sometimes it leaves its fingerprints on the future.

Gil Grissom: Well, someone once said, "What we are never changes, but who we are, never stops changing."

Warrick Brown: Who brings a gun to a knife fight?
Gil Grissom: The winner?

Director: You ever see the show? It's got a lot of forensics.
Gil Grissom: There's too many forensics shows on TV.

I'd be a groupie...but they're just not that cute

So I just got back from the Bayside show at The Crazy Donkey, and it was awesome to say the least. I had only been to a live Bayside show almost 2 yrs ago and I only went then more as courtesy for those who invited me than for love of the actual group. But I was very excited about this show, because now they're pretty much the only band I listen to. It was truly an awesome night. Jetlag Gemini and Punchline were really good opening bands. (On a side note, the lead singer of Punchline is a really nice guy. Glad we bought a CD from him) We found a couch so I didn't have to stand all night and once Bayside came on, it served the added purpose of being an elevated surface from which to see the band. All would have been good, if not for these two drunken bitches who decided to overtake said couch and proceeded to basically grind my leg for the entire length of the concert. Maybe she thought it was Kasey's knee. And yelling "I will suck your dick for free," at them? Seriously?!? Cause you get paid for it otherwise? Oh well, she'll probably get herpes at some point, if she hasn't already.

After the show, I got to meet most of the guys. Anthony was MIA, as I've heard he's prone to do. While all of the guys were very cordial, I must say Jack is now pretty much my favorite. He, above everyone else, made us feel as if the fans are what it's about. He took the time to actually talk to us and introduced himself to us. As if I didn't know who he was. And upon finding out what my name was, went "Oh that song's not about you, " which I had to find hilarious. It was really cool to meet him.

Wednesday, I am going to go see Uncreation, which I'm really looking forward to because I've never seen anyone I know play live music. Should be fun
