Glad they didn't sing about the Hamptons

So, I went to Montauk with Kasey, cause everyone was doing something for Spring Break, so why not? I'm not a big traveling person but it's not really that far away. We mainly chose Montauk because we both like Bayside and they have a song called, you guessed it, Montauk. The drive there was super easy because it's mainly one long road. On the way there we passed by the Hamptons. Ugh, what a pretentious place. Tans, blond hair, expensive shops...bleh. I was glad to see that Montauk is actually a very nice town, if a little empty. But, in all fariness it is their off season.

Much to our surprise, everything closes at around 6:00 p.m. Whether due to it being the off season, or just the price of living in a small town I don't know. We ended up eating at a small fish restaurant. I ordered something which ended up tasting terrible to me. Thank goodness there was a chicken place open late. I just grabbed myself a burger and called it a night.

The beach out there is awesome. The hotel was literally about 2 minutes from the water. There is something about the smell of salt water that is soothing. There's a freshness to it that is missing in the city. There was no chance of going in that water because two seconds after dipping my hand into the surf, it turned into a block of ice. So we just wrote out things in the sand. (Even though some of us wrote incorrect lyrics in the sand. I won't say who *cough* Kasey * cough) After that we went to the Montauk lighthouse. There is not much to learn there but the scenery was beautiful. And if you're brave enough to travail the 137 steps leadign to the top of the lighthouse, you are rewarded with a view, that is honestly beyond words.

All in all it was a very nice place. Quaint, almost out of those weird all movies. I hope to return in the summer when the weather is nicer.

For those who want to know what Bayside said, or for those who want to check their lyrics (*cough* Kasey *cough*)here is Montauk:

It's getting cold
Thought it was too soon to tell but it was terribly old
and now the heartbeat slows
to a heartless crawl

The lights went out
The lights went out
and darkness filled the house
on a tiring night under a Long Island sky

Chorus:
I thought I'd known the consequence,
sweetness,can you believe this?
mess we've made of it
this mess we've made of it
In years to come it might make sense
sweetness can you believe this
Just what's become of it
What's become of it

But If you hear this and you think you're ready,
meet me in Montauk where we'll write out in the sand
Here lies the destiny of two hurt souls afraid to be
cured again. That could be our epitaph

Chorus (3X)
